We went out to our first BD outing last week, at Hill House Equestrian Centre in Lincolnshire. It was my first time competing there, and I thought it was an excellent facility - we will definitely be going back! The weather was awful all day, but they have indoors in such plentiful supply that the warm up and tests were both inside - thank goodness!
I was so impressed with her - she was so well behaved, really relaxed and we did two very lovely tests. With it being affiliated the judge was quite critical, but it was all constructive and very fair, and we scored a 62% and a 63%. I thought the tests felt nicer than the scores, which is more important to me - it is still a subjective discipline. I came away with my first two qualifications towards area festivals too, so that's exciting!
I also found myself very appreciative of just how easy Emmie is to have at competitions. Bearing in mind that I regularly go out on my own, it's really important that she is easy to handle when we are out and about. She loads well, will happily stand quietly on or off the trailer, I can leave her there and not worry she'll start messing about, and she's good as gold to get ready and tack up etc. I actually love competing on my own as I find it much more relaxing, I can do things as I want and at my own pace - the only trick is to be very organised and arrive a bit earlier than you think you need to be there, because you don't have anyone else to help you rush and get ready!
We also came away with two lovely rosettes - woo hoo!
